Travel Arrangements
Before commencement of the safari, clients are required to complete and sign the:
- Terms of Business Contract
- General Information Sheet
- Indemnity Form
Please also provide us with the following:
- Copy of your Passport
- Copy of your Flight Itinerary
TRAVELLING REQUIREMENTS
- Your main entry into South Africa will be at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. From there you can catch a domestic flight to the closest airport from your hunting area. Alternatively, we will arrange a meet and greet/pickup with your Professional Hunter at OR Tambo and you will be transported to the safari camp in a double cab vehicle with space for 4 passengers.
- American and European Union passports are sufficient for entry into South Africa. No Visas are required.
TRAVELING WITH RIFLES OR BOWS
Bow Hunters
- Bow Hunters do not require an import permit for their bow(s) into South Africa.
- They do however require a CBP Form 4457
Hiring a Rifle
- If you are planning to hire a rifle from Fair Chase Safaris, please notify us in advance.
- We have a .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, .416 Rigby and .470 Nitro Express available for hire.
- All our rifles are fitted with known and proven brands of telescopes.
Traveling with a Rifle(s) to South Africa
- You will need a temporary permit for firearms and ammunition when traveling to South Africa.
- It is important to apply for this permit with the necessary paperwork well in advance.
- For assistance with the firearm import/export process please contact us and we will put you in contact with Bruce Mdluli (bmdluli005@gmail.com) at OR Tambo Johannesburg Airport.
- He will apply for the required import/export permit on your behalf, meet you at the airport and walk you through customs.
- He charges a fee of ±$150 for his service.
You will need the following DOCUMENTS for your temporary firearm permit:
- Fair Chace Safaris Letter of Invitation. (We will send you one once you’ve completed your General Information Sheet)
- Copy of your passport.
- CBP Form 4457 (This must be stamped by your US Customs official)
- Copy of your flight itinerary.
Rules & Regulations for the import/export/transit of FIREARMS
- You may import a maximum of four (4) firearms per hunter, but not more than one of the same calibers.
- ONLY FlyAirlink and FlySafair allow the transportation of firearms domestically within South Africa.
- Hunting and sporting firearms and ammunition may not be stored in the same case as the firearm nor within checked-in baggage, it must be packed separately.
- You may only bring ammunition for the firearms that you will be carrying.
- No person under the age of 21 may bring firearm(s) into South Africa or apply for a temporary import permit in his / her name.
- No self-protection firearm(s) are allowed.
Rules & Regulations for traveling with AMMUNITION for your firearm(s)
- All ammunition you are travelling with must be in a separate, lockable, and secure container (no cardboard boxes allowed).
- You will need to package your ammunition separate from your checked-in baggage and from your firearm case.
- Please note a maximum of 200 rounds of ammunition are allowed per firearm/per caliber as most airlines have a weight limit on ammunition of 5 kg / 11 Lbs.
